Blog – PPL Exercises 18/02/2023

Its been ages since I have flown a Tecnam P2002 Sierra but after a good pre-flight check I was back in the saddle like I had never been away.

Today was a refresher of stalls and turns with a wing drop stall thrown in for good measure.

I was pleasantly surprised at how relaxed and easy to fly the Sierra is. My turns were all on the money and I was having fun knowing that the skills were all there and that I was doing a great job of flying this little sports car of an aircraft.

Stalls were also easy to do with no vices.

The wing drop stall was way faster than the Tomahawk of previous weeks. It really snapped around and I had to recover fast with throttle to idle and full opposite rudder to recover. My FI also demonstrated just what this aircraft can do with a maximum rate turn. Oh boy this Tecnam can really perform!

On returning to base we got a big whiff of fuel in the cockpit so decided to  go directly onto downwind and land.

The approach and finals were all good but I botched the round out and was sideways when we touched down plus we landed heavily. Not a great landing but as it had been about 2 years since I had landed one of these I was not too hard on myself.

The fuel smell in the end was caused by the local drag racing club. Amazing how a cloud of fuel vapour can reach you at 2000+ feet. Anyway always a good call to go for safety first.

All in all very satisfying session and I was stoked at my flying today. The Tecnam is a joy to fly and I was really relaxed and enjoying my flight.

Bring it on!
