Blog – Circuits With CFI 26/08/2023

Today my CFI wanted to confirm my consistency in the circuit so that he can be satisfied with further solo work.

The weather was overcast with just 3kts of wind straight down the runway. After doing my ground checks, I opened the throttle and commenced my circuits.

The first circuit I was ok so I took a deep breath and said to myself: just do that again. Well not this time sunshine!

My height onto final was inconsistent, so I was fighting it all the way down final to loose height and stay on speed and glideslope. Not the best way to go. Urgh! so frustrating!

During our post flight debrief I told my CFI that was where I thought things went pear shaped so that is what I need to eliminate from my circuits. He agreed so at least we are both on the same page.

I just wish I could stay consistent. Its so frustrating to do well one week, then struggle the next. I plan on doing some serious chair flying and keep that “rollout onto final at 500ft” mantra in my head and remember to keep the stick back so that the nose wheel comes down nicely. Everything else is clicking so its just small things that are affecting a good circuit.

Anyone who thinks that landing an aircraft is “a doddle” is either a natural born pilot or just plain lying…
