Blog – FLWOP (Forced Landing Without Power) 04/05/2024
Today was my 3rd intensive flight on forced landings without power.
Flying was way better today. I was not squeezing in on my approach pattern and could get my heights and speed dialled in. I was holding the stick lightly so when I looked down, I was not pushing the stick forward and loosing the flightpath. I was doing well, and was doing the procedure well. It still took a few times to get a good track and hit my marks.
However, I really struggled on choosing a landing site today. I would choose one, then select another one or two halfway thru. I need to choose well then set up the pattern on this choice. My FI showed me a method of orientating into wind, and then choosing a field. This helped but we still need to work on this.
My decisions were a bit wobbly but my flying was good. Some things I did do well however the PPL standard is much higher than I am currently demonstrating. I need to hit the books and do some “chair flying” to get my head around good field choice. This is the last but the most important aspect I need to nail. Once this is sorted I believe I will have this procedure well sorted.
Strategies for that nugget will be practiced next flight.
Happy Days!
Until next time…..
