Back To Basics
The first day of my revised “Back to Basics” training plan went into operation.
With my alternate FI I worked hard on straight and level flight with both power and speed settings. This training was awesome!
The exercise first focussed on the sight picture of straight and level flight in the Tecnam. Once I had that memorised my FI then covered the altimeter and said, “Ok fly straight and level”. I thought “how am I going to do that? But then the lightbulb went on and I put the Tecnam into the sight picture of level flight I just had and pointed it at a peak in the distance. Eureka! I could fly straight and level.
We then mixed this up with power settings. Again, I could keep it relatively straight and level. Ok this is starting to feel great! Next came “do a 180deg turn”. Again, the instruments were covered, and I took all my queues from the outside world. Yep did it again! Well within +- 100ft. We repeated these exercises with climbing turns and full 360 turns. Not perfect but close. Things were looking good. Halleluiah!
We finished off the session with a re-join of the circuit and some touch and goes. Still not perfect however I could keep height and direction so much better. Ok small steps Mark, just take small steps…
So from a point of despair and near defeat I have now got the desire and energy back. So many members of the club have been telling me to keep going when I was at my lowest point and they are right. It does take hard work to get what you desire but that makes it so much better once you reach a goal. It wont happen instantly, there is a huge amount of work ahead but as Dory says… “just keep swimming”.
Until next time…
