Today was one of those challenging days as I was ragged in my flying, and the weather was not playing nice with a 12kt crosswind and some gnarly thermals in the circuit.
After completing my pre-flight, we commenced with starting the engine which didn’t want to play ball. We suspected ice in the carb and after a bit of adjustment and cursing the engine started to run smooth.
After doing run ups, I lined up and rolled down 24 for a set of circuits.
I haven’t been flying for a wee while and today it showed with some sloppy initial circuits. I was not hitting the numbers or heights and I was having an absolute mare. My FI was patient and pointed out my errors. After some frustrating go-arounds, I was soon correcting these errors early and it was pleasing to see that my FI started being quiet and just coming along for the ride. That is a great measure to know you are doing it right.
After several more touch and goes, it was time to land and taxi back to the aero club.
I was rather annoyed at myself, but my FI was satisfied and asked if I was happy to do a few circuits solo. I was happy with the conditions being within my limits, and we had sufficient fuel in the tanks so it was on.
Happy Days!
Until next time…..
