Blog – First Solo in The Training Area 29/09/2024
After all my hard work I have been cleared to fly solo in the training area. This is an advanced clearance in our club, so I’m very proud.
My plan was to repeat the check ride flight, with some turns thrown in.
I set myself up for a FLWOP and again completed this with no issues. I was in the zone and was having so much fun.
I was again going thru the process, and reciting my actions. It was bleeding awesome!
The airspace was very busy however, so I had to have good situational awareness. I was briefed that the Air Ambulance was due in during my flight so I was tuning in to everything that was coming across the radio regardless of where the aircraft was. I managed to chat with other Pilots confidently and made good choices in where I was flying and what my intentions were. I orbited around a well known landmark until the Air Ambulance landed, then made for Bennetts Hill to do my last FLWOP. This one I Aced. Yeah baby, you are a “Fly Boy”!
It was then time to return to Hood and do an overhead join. As I was coming in from the North East, I flew at 1900 until in was in the non-traffic side of the field. I then descended to circuit height, crossed the 06 threshold and joined downwind for 24 grass.
I set up for an almost perfect crosswind landing at 60kts and touched down for a smooth landing. What a way to finish!
My first solo session in the training area was fantastic. I’m so happy that I have hit this milestone.
Next lesson I will fly out to the training area and work on steep turns and spin recovery both with the CFI and solo.
Until next time…..
