Today’s mission was to demonstrate consistency to my FI in forced landings to prove consistency.

After a nice standard take-off on 06 seal, we climbed up to 3000ft heading to the low flying area.

My FI set me up for the first forced landing from 3000ft.

I  had no problem selecting a field again today, and advising my FI of the 1500 foot area and 1000ft marks.

I was cramming it a bit,, so I flew wider to get the “look” and spacing sorted, taking control of the aircraft with authority. I was hitting my marks at correct speed and height. I fudge the order of some things, but all in all I flew the aircraft to a good landing.

On the second attempt I was checking my speed, trimming well, relaxing my grip on the stick, checking that I was “within the white arc” for speed before deploying flap and deploy flap in stages once I was certain to make the field. I was starting to think ahead and planning which made the whole thing much better.

Once we had completed three more FLWOP, I radioed intensions and set up for an overhead join back at the airfield.

I flew a great line, descending to 1900 feet agl ready to join when my FI pulled the power…..

After a bit of thought I trimmed to best glide speed, descended into the downwind, and executed a glide approach and landing onto 06 grass. My FI was well pleased.

Another, challenging but satisfying session. It’s coming together and the consistency is there.

After a chat with the CFI it was time to repeat those glide approaches solo!

Until next time…..
