Another week and another fantastic days training.

Today was a repeat of last week with the full forced landing without power sequence added and more glide approaches practised.

My FI had me do a circuit with a glide approach which I aced; Nice one!

We then climbed up to 3000ft heading to the low flying area and practised the full a few forced landing sequence, ensuring I hit my 1500ft and 1000ft marks every time. I worked hard on spacing and turning in towards the selected field,  however I flew too close and lost the field under the wing a few times. Urgh! That was putting the aircraft into the wrong position for landing at 500ft.

However I was doing it more right than wrong so not a complete disaster.

I’m still very weary of S-turns as I keep thinking “I’m low and I’m slow”. But you can do quite large S-turns in the Tecnam safely so that’s something I need to work on. All the same I was enjoying the flight.

Once we had that sorted I radioed intensions and set up for an overhead join back at the airfield.

This was done with no fuss and both speed and height were again good. This became important as we had another aircraft in the downwind, so I had to turn slightly left to get the spacing good for landing.

I settled into the downwind and then my FI simulated an engine out as usual now. He ran thru the mantra: “Look at the field, check your speed, look at the field, check your speed”.

I came in on track again , levelled off just on threshold, and brought the aircraft in for a nice landing. Nice!

What a good, challenging session. Things are getting better, more consistent, and I achieved another good result. My FI was very happy with my flying again. So much so that next flight will be solo glide approaches in the circuit! These are planned to be at varying heights and distances from the field so I have this part absolutely nailed.

Yay more solo time. Bring it on!

Until next time…..
