Low Flying

A low cloud and windy day was the perfect conditions for Low Flying training today.

From NZPP we flew to the Otaki training area and commenced descending to 700amsl.

The aircraft was configured for 70kts with 20deg of flap. The aircraft got buffeted as the wind was 15+kts and turbulent due to the terrain. Even so this was so much fun running thru valleys and over saddles.

My FI made the training challenging as he would decide that a certain area was “cloud down to ground so turn around”. I figured out rather quickly that a turn onto wind would create a nice tight turn so I used this knowledge for all turns. This is another time that all the previous training like slow flight, straight and level and medium turns come into play.

I returned to NZPP and had a challenging cross wind landing that I did ok at. All in all a very concise and fun filled session with an FLWOP component thrown in to keep me honest. What a great days flying!
