Low Flying (2) – Reversal Turns

A long break in the weather gave me the opportunity to get in a good training session today.

I flew with the CFI into the Otaki training area without any issues.

Once there we did our “extra” HASELLLL checks. ( Height, Airframe. Safety, Engine, Location, Lookout, Lights, and Locknut). Once these were covered off I did a radio call and descend to 600ft. My CFI chose the power pylons as our track then got me to turn 45deg away from the wind then turn back onto the pylons so that I was flying in the opposite direction. This part was easy however I tend to be a bit lazy with my feet and also let the nose drop a bit in the turn. Something that I need to be more disciplined about. Apart from that my CFI was happy with my turns.

Once finished, I powered up, cleaned up the flaps and climbed to 1000ft for the short hop down the coast to Paraparaumu. I was catching up on a 152 so I decided to do a right orbit for sequencing.

The landing was a little bit sideways as I didn’t put in enough rudder. Argh rudder issues! Anyway this is how we learn so its all part of flying. A grand day out!
