Blog – PPL Flight Test Practice 01/03/2025

As it had been several weeks since my last flight, so today was a full practice of the PPL Flight test.

The weather was warm and dry with just a few minor clouds and a few bumps here and there.

After running through our pre-flight, taxi, run-ups, and take-off we flew out to the training area and ran thru the following:

  • Stall – Clean Configuration
  • Stall – Powered on (Wing Drop)
  • Standard and Steep Turns
  • Force Landing Without Power
  • Precautionary Landing
  • Coastal Reversal
  • Feature Reversal
  • Turns Around a Point
  • Slow Flight
  • Flapless Landing
  • Short Field Landing

Considering I hadn’t flown in about three weeks, I was flying well today. I felt at ease with the aircraft and my handling was pretty damn good.

I did botch the wing drop stall by adding aileron rather than just easing the stick forward and adding full opposite rudder. After a few more attempts, I had this sorted as well.

I had no issues with Short field or flapless landings either. I also took note from last time and let the nose drop in the turns which got me bang on height for landing.

My Precautionary landing was a bit wobbly as I rushed some of the procedures however I would have made the field fine and I flew a nicely spaced pattern.

My main take-away from today was that despite a bit rusty, my flying was still accurate and safe.

My consistency is also improving so I was stoked.

Next lesson we will most likely rinse and repeat, and add in a few more items on the PPL flight test list, working towards maintaining consistency and accuracy.

Progressing ever closer to the flight test.

Until next time…
