Blog – PPL Flight Test Practice 09/03/2025
Another week of practicing the skills for the PPL Flight Test.
The weather today was overcast with a series of squalls going thru. Not too bad but we had to pick our timing to get a decent run of weather.
After running through our pre-flight, taxi, run-ups, and take-off we flew out to the training area and ran thru the following:
- Engine Failure at Ground Roll
- Short Field Take-off
- Stall – Powered Off
- Stall – Powered On
- Stall – Wing Drop
- Standard and Steep Turns
- Force Landing Without Power
- Compass Turns
- Slow Flight
- Short Field Landing
I was flying ok today. I felt good with most skills and my handling was pretty good.
I did muck up the Compass Turns by not limiting my turns to Rate One. This made staying accurate harder. Not Earth shattering, but something to note as I don’t do these enough.
I had only minor issues with Short field landing as I was accurate but just a wee bit off centre as I didn’t add aileron for the crosswind.
My main take-away from today was that I was consistent, accurate and safe so I was stoked.
Next lesson we will most likely rinse and repeat, and add in a few more items on the PPL flight test list, working towards maintaining consistency and accuracy.
I can feel my skills progressing ever closer to a consistent flight test standard. I’m so close now, I can smell the sweet taste of success!
Until next time…
