Blog – Short Field Landings & Cross-wind Take-offs 22/10/2023

Due to maintenance issues, today we changed things up and went up in WRA a similar aircraft to my usual Tecnam.

The weather was a bit overcast but didn’t stop us working on short field landings.
From the bad-vis configuration ( Flaps 20deg and speed at 60kts) we flew a lower circuit and then progressively slow down to 55kts on final and 50kts over the threshold. This means a slightly steeper glideslope and more flare but a much less roll.

Surprisingly I managed to nail these landings on RWY10 within a few feet either way of our target landing point and well within our simulated field length. I was stoked!

After every landing, we backtracked and did short field take-off. I nailed these too, being on centreline and straight down the runway. Whoohoo!

Super happy with todays flight. I was in the zone and everything just clicked!
