Blog – Wing Drop Stalls 2/12/2023

Today’s sortie was polishing up on wing drop stalls. I had to use the clubs Tomahawk as all the club Tecnam’s were U/S so that was a bit of a challenge.

After getting airborne and flying to the training area, I tried a few stalls that were frankly quite sloppy. My main issue according to my FI was that my rudder work is insufficient.

My FI demonstrated an awesome drill to really get the feet going. This involves placing the nose on an object on the horizon, then simultaneously running aileron and rudder to keep the nose on that distant object.

After a few tries I had the nose staying still whilst rotating the ailerons an applying rudder. A very neat drill.

Once I had this sorted, we executed several wing drop stalls, with the last one being a beauty according to my FI. That was super satisfying!

Flying back to the field, I descended to 1500ft AGL and did a nice overhead join to landing.

All in all, I was very satisfied with today’s sortie. I was quite nervous about flying the Tomahawk but she is a great training aircraft that makes you do procedures correctly.

Looking forward to the next one.

Until next time…..
